The insurgency in CAR still lives on as was shown on 3 October 2022 when a roadside bomb killed three UN peacekeepers from Bangladesh and injured several others. As reported by Al-Jazeera on 5 October 2022, the attack took place near the village of Kaita, close to the border with Cameroon. This attack comes just a month after the deployment of Rwandan commando parachutists in the country to assist the government in containing the armed insurgency (HumAngle, 6 September 2022).

World Watch Research Analyst Yonas Dembele comments: “The deployment of international peacekeepers appears to have reduced or calmed the insurgency to a certain extent. It should however be noted that CAR’s insurgency is not so much religious or ideological in nature, but is instead more political and tribal. The latest attack illustrates the continued presence of armed actors who are capable of destabilizing the country. Such an attack could lead to a resumption of the levels of insecurity which greatly affect Christians.”
