As reported by
Cuba Trendings on 19 June 2021, the door of the Baptist church in Remedios, Villa Clara, was set on fire. A document was found pinned to the door which turned out to be the Baptist Convention"s official letter of
disagreement to Resolution No. 16/2021 concerning compulsory school sex education (dated 22 May 2021). The letter was originally sent to the authorities to highlight how parents were concerned about losing their right to educate their children according to their own faith and principles.
World Watch Research analyst Rossana Ramirez comments: "Ever since the Constitutional reform of April 2019, the government seems determined to impose its own values on society regarding marriage and family. The state is following a new strategy of child indoctrination which involves schools teaching classes on sexual orientation and gender identity without any regard for parental views. In a country where anyone opposing the interests of the regime will face difficulties, churches continue to be targeted for attack, especially when they publicly express their opposition, as was the case with the Baptist Convention in Villa Clara. Due to the fact that school education is increasingly contradicting Christian faith, many Christian parents are considering not sending their children to school anymore. If they do that, they run the risk of imprisonment, as happened to the
Rigal-Exposito family in 2019 (Radiotelevisionmarti, 22 April 2019)."
