Tajikistan: Christians made welcome for environmental projects

Show: false / Country: Tajikistan /
According to Agenzia Fides reporting on 25 May 2020, Catholic NGO Caritas has been requested by a‚  government company to set up further environmental projects. Caritas has been working to improve water networks and waste management in Jomi district and the organization has now been requested to do the same in Qubodiyon district. Rolf Zeegers, persecution analyst at World Watch Research, stresses that this is one of the very few positive reports coming from Tajikistan: "Most of the time, the highly restrictive regime of President Rahmon is only mentioned in a negative way. However, Caritas has built up a good reputation through its projects helping teenagers, the homeless, the disabled and the elderly in Tajikistan (Agenzia Fides, 22 April 2020 and 23 August 2019). The government"s cooperation with a Christian organization is a good example that not all is bad in Tajikistan."
